Title
Almost Halloween
Artist
Hiroko Stumpf
Medium
Pastel - Oil Pastel On Paper
Description
I recently saw a video of people painting with oil pastels, and I heard that if you apply layers of oil pastels, you can get a finish similar to oil painting, so I immediately tried oil pastels. I had only imagined oil pastels as a tool for young children to draw with, but by using layers of paint and blurring, I was able to get a deeper feeling. I thought it would be interesting to try painting the same subject with different mediums like watercolor, Acrylic , color pencil and compare the results.
This is my first work with oil pastels.I chose the theme of "Almost Halloween" based on the feeling of tree branches and earth.
Oil Pastel on pastel paper.

I love the textures you’ve created here Hiroko!…that and the beautiful autumn colors.

Thank you Graham. This was the first time I used oil pastels to paint this picture, and it was difficult and took a long time.

Thank you Kathy! Oil pastel painting is a time-consuming ( for me) but interesting art medium that I will try from time to time.

Thank you Lorena. For me, oil pastel painting is time-consuming and I am hesitant to do it, but I would like to do it from time to time.

Hiroko, this painting has an extraordinarily strong effect on the viewer. It is almost 3D, I feel like standing there and being directly captured in this great mood. Fantastic work! L/F

Thank you Genevieve. Oil pastel are also quite an interesting art medium, although they take a lot of time, just like colored pencil.
